Personal Finance Digest Vol4.IS01 This post explores some findings on what Canadians think and therefore, express their national pride amid the trade war. The last few months have Canadians (the Americans, and the entire world) talking about the deadly economic word: tariff. The transition of the American democratic-led government into a new government took effect. The Americans voted. And there in a few weeks, people started to witness how confusing the economic direction has been. True enough, such a change signalled some political and economic concerns. That is not just the American people thinking (and perhaps responding in their way to such changes). Many other people on a global scale have economic worries amid the ongoing trade war. Canadians, in particular, have been the focus of such tariffs. The Canadian government had responded.
The spirit of unity, national pride, loyalty and love for Canada was even more heightened. In an article published at CBC, the rise in Canadian pride and nationalism was evident as revealed by Angus Reid’s poll. The poll shows an average increase of nine points (from 58 to 67 per cent) in national pride across the country. It reported that British Columbia’s response to national pride (about Canadian identity) is up 12 points. Ontario is up nine points. While Atlantic Canada recorded up 15 points. What is astonishing is Quebec’s response to nationalism. The percentage of people expressing their pride and love for Canada rose faster than it did across Canada. The share of Quebecers expressing ‘proud to be Canadian’ is 13 points up. That is from 45 per cent to 58 per cent now. Canadian response, including Quebec’s response, was recorded between December of 2024 and February of 2025. The current tariff threat has touched many Canadians. Quebecers alone, who would not always be on the same side as other Canadians now show patriotism more than ever. Recognizing that with such a crisis it is just right to be aligned with the rest of Canada.
